MASSAGE
When should I get a massage?
Massage is an ideal preventive care health option for everyone. Massages are perfect at any time. Too many people live with unnecessary pain, letting the problem go and taking longer to heal. Massage can help relieve that pain and is an ideal preventative health care option for everyone.
When should I wait to get a massage?
If you have any health considerations, you may want to consult your doctor and/or the massage therapist. Here are some examples of conditions where you should NOT receive a massage:
- Fever
- Any type of infectious disease
- Severe cold
- Any acute injury (within 24-48 hours)
- Recent surgery (before 6-8 weeks)
- High risk pregnancy (consent from doctor for approval)
These are only some of the conditions under which massage is not recommended, but if you are not sure, please contact us.
I have never been to a therapeutic massage session before. What can I expect?
First of all, you will thoroughly enjoy your experience. If you set up your session online, you should receive an email confirmation with directions. Please click on the intake form to the right. You should print and complete the form to submit at the first session.
You do not need anything special unless you have been asked to bring additional paperwork or medical records. Please arrive to the office 5-10 minutes before your scheduled session and have a seat in the waiting room. Your therapist will be right with you.
The therapist will greet you and bring you to the massage room. You will need to complete our intake form that includes a health history, informed consent, assumption of risk and waiver. There will be some time to meet your therapist and discuss any questions or concerns. For some sessions, it may be important for the therapist to conduct a brief posture, physical and/or movement assessment as part of your session. He/she will give you a brief summary of your session and instructions before she leaves the room.
What happens during a therapeutic massage session?
This really depends on the type of session that you have purchased. However, for most sessions, you will rest on a professional therapy table in the face up or face down position with the sheets and blankets over you. You remain covered at all times; the therapist will uncover one area at a time as he/she works to ensure your comfort.
When you are face down, you will place you head into a cradle that supports your cervical spine and head. There is a bolster for your feet, too. At all times, the therapist will ensure your comfort with the table and/or temperature of the room.
The therapist will use a variety of therapeutic techniques to manipulate your skin, fascia and muscles. This may include gentle gliding, rocking, pressure point, stretching and more. The licensed Therapist is highly trained to provide you with the highest quality and customized care.
My doctor says that I could really use a therapeutic massage session. What should I do?
That is great! You may want to ask for a prescription from them, depending on your condition. Then, give us a call. We have accepted health insurance payments in the past but are not billing insurance at this time. Given the recent changes in our U.S. healthcare structure, we have decided to put this on hold for now. Massage therapy is a covered benefit on most health savings plans or flexible spending accounts. So, if you have a card for one of those accounts, bring it in and we can charge from it.

What are the main steps for a facial?
A facial is a spa or beauty treatment that focuses on improving the health and appearance of the skin on the face. It involves a series of cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, and nourishing steps tailored to the individual’s specific skin type and concerns. Facials are usually performed by licensed estheticians or skincare professionals.
The process of a basic facial typically includes the following steps:
- Consultation: The esthetician will begin by discussing the client’s skincare concerns and goals, as well as any relevant medical history or skin conditions.
- Cleansing: The esthetician will cleanse the face to remove makeup, dirt, and oil from the skin’s surface.
- Skin Analysis: The esthetician will examine the client’s skin to determine its type (e.g., dry, oily, combination) and identify any specific issues such as acne, dryness, or sensitivity.
- Exfoliation: A gentle exfoliant is used to remove dead skin cells, promoting skin renewal and a smoother complexion.
- Extractions: If needed, the esthetician may perform manual extractions to remove blackheads or whiteheads.
- Massage: A facial massage is usually performed to improve blood circulation and relax facial muscles.
- Mask: A customized facial mask is applied, targeting the specific needs of the skin, such as hydration, calming, or purifying.
- Serums and Moisturizers: After the mask is removed, serums and moisturizers are applied to nourish and protect the skin.
- Sunscreen: Often, a facial concludes with the application of sunscreen to protect the skin from UV damage.
How often should I get facials? It is recommended to come back every 3 to 4 weeks or once a month to give the skin time to regenerate.
What can I expect from a facial?
Each service is customized to you. If you set up your session online, you should receive an email confirmation with directions. You do not need anything special unless you have been asked to bring additional paperwork or medical records. Please arrive to the office 5-10 minutes before your scheduled session to give you and your skin therapist time to consult about your concerns while you complete your intake form that includes a health history, informed consent, assumption of risk and waiver. At the end of your session is when your skin therapist will give you a brief summary of your session and instructions before you leave.
HAIR REMOVAL
What is the difference between sugaring and waxing?
Waxing and sugaring are both hair removal methods that involve applying a sticky substance to the skin, which adheres to the hair and is then pulled off, removing the hair from the root. While they have similar goals, there are some differences between the two techniques:
- Ingredients:
- Waxing: In traditional waxing, a wax product made from resins, beeswax, or other synthetic materials is used to remove the hair.
- Sugaring: Sugaring involves using a paste made primarily from natural ingredients like sugar, water, and lemon juice. Some sugaring products may also contain additional ingredients like essential oils.
- Application:
- Waxing: The wax is typically applied in the direction of hair growth and removed against the direction of hair growth using cloth strips or, in the case of hard wax, without the need for strips.
- Sugaring: The sugar paste is also applied in the direction of hair growth and removed against the direction of hair growth. The paste is usually spread by hand and does not require the use of cloth strips.
- Residue:
- Waxing: Wax residue can be more challenging to clean off the skin after the procedure, and some waxes may require the use of oil to remove any remaining stickiness.
- Sugaring: Sugaring paste is water-soluble, making it easier to clean up with plain water. It typically leaves less residue on the skin.
- Sensitivity:
- Waxing: Some people with sensitive skin may experience irritation or redness after waxing, especially if the wax is too hot or if the same area is waxed multiple times.
- Sugaring: Sugaring tends to be more gentle on the skin, as the paste adheres only to the hair and dead skin cells, minimizing the risk of skin irritation. The sugar paste is used at body temperature, reducing the chances of burns.
- Hair Length and Breakage:
- Waxing: Hair should be a certain length (usually about 1/4 inch) for waxing to be effective. Waxing can sometimes lead to hair breakage, especially if the hair is too short.
- Sugaring: Sugaring can effectively remove shorter hairs (as short as 1/16 inch), reducing the waiting time between sessions and decreasing the likelihood of hair breakage.
Ultimately, the choice between waxing and sugaring comes down to personal preference, skin sensitivity, and the availability of skilled practitioners in your area. Some people may find one method more comfortable or suitable for their skin type than the other. Both techniques are widely used for hair removal and can provide smooth results for several weeks.
How often should I get hair removal?
Both waxing and sugaring provide long-lasting results depending on your hair growth. It is recommended to come back every 3 to 4 weeks or once a month but that is totally dependent on each person’s hair growth rate, too. The hair needs to be at least 1/4 of an inch, or the length of a grain of rice, in order for the wax or sugar to grab the hair.
What are the main steps for professional Hair Removal and what can I expect?
You will be instructed to lie on the bed in a private room and be positioned depending on what area you’re getting hair removal. For areas that are covered by clothing, you will be asked to remove that clothing. The area will be cleansed by a pre-cleanse and a cotton pad first before applying wax or sugar and then we follow up afterwards by removing any residue and then apply aloe if area is sensitive. Our priority is to make sure clients are comfortable throughout the whole service.
