March Honoree: Brian Edwards
One way we’re celebrating is to honor you, our clients. Each month we will highlight a 10th Anniversary Honoree(s); a client of ours that has been integral to our success and that represents and fully supports the fabric of everything we believe.
 The March 10th Anniversary Honoree(s) is Brian Edwards! Brian Edwards is one of the most dedicated and hardest working men, father, and athlete I know. Quality, compassion, and dedication are just a few of the characteristics he represents and that we value as a team. He is a 40 year old father of five beautiful girls and married to an amazing woman, Jennie Edwards. He tells me that “she never ceases to amaze me!” His girls are 9, 7, 5, 2, and 6 months in age.  They also have another little girl in heaven that would be 10 years old.
In his own words, “With owning my own State Farm Insurance business and having five children, life is extremely hectic.  As a competitive grappler I have really felt, seen, and fully experienced the benefits of massage therapy. I do not get the opportunity to come see Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork as much as I need to, but when I do, the difference is instantaneous! In my free time, I train for and compete in grappling competitions all over the country. I train at Swamp Fox Jiu Jitsu located at 3426 West Palmetto in Florence, SC.” And man, does he really compete! This guy is fierce! Please note pics below.

We are officially part of the Young Living Essential Oil family and we love it so far. They make is so easy to understand and have some very beneficial blends, like Thieves, Peace & Calming and Valor. I love this way of helping my family’s and clients’ health naturally. We have been diffusing Peace and Calming and the Christmas blends in the office and my own home. Wonderful!

Longer and warmer days offer the perfect backdrop to dust off the running shoes and embark on a new fitness goal. One unwanted side effect is increased muscle soreness. The good news is that integrating massage therapy into your health and wellness routine can help alleviate some discomfort.
In fact, research indicates that massage therapy reduces inflammation of skeletal muscle acutely damaged through exercise. The study, conducted by the Buck Institute for Research on Aging and McMaster University in Ontario, provides evidence for the benefits of massage therapy for those with musculoskeletal injuries and potentially for those with inflammatory disease, according to the lead author of the research.
- Â The study found evidence at the cellular level that massage therapy may affect inflammation in a way similar to anti-inflammatory medications.
- The researchers âfound that massage activated the mechanotransduction signaling pathways focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and extracellular signalâregulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2), potentiated mitochondrial biogenesis signaling [nuclear peroxisome proliferatorâactivated receptor Îł coactivator 1α (PGC-1α)], and mitigated the rise in nuclear factor ÎșB (NFÎșB) (p65) nuclear accumulation caused by exercise-induced muscle trauma.â1

Massage Therapy for Regular Health Maintenance:
75% of individuals surveyed claim their primary reason for receiving a massage in the past 12 months was medical (43%) and stress (32%) related, according to the 17th annual consumer survey, sponsored by the American Massage Therapy AssociationÂź (AMTAÂź). Medical reasons include pain relief, soreness, stiffness or spasms, injury recovery, migraines, prevention, and general well-being.
- 88% view massage as beneficial to overall health and wellness.
- 88% believe massage can be effective in reducing pain; with 24% saying they have used massage therapy for pain relief.
- The overall mean (excluding none) was 4.1 massages for those receiving massage in the past 12 months. Those whose primary reason for getting massage was medical got a mean of 5.7 massages.
Americansâ Reasons for Getting Massages are Changing: More people are turning to massage therapy to assist with medical conditions.
- As few as 34% of those surveyed believe massage therapy is only a form of pampering.
- In the previous 12 months, 17% of respondents received a massage at a spa compared to 19 percent in 2012. This decline, and the presence of chiropractor’s offices, health clubs and physician’s offices/medical clinics on the list of locations where people receive massage, indicates consumers identify massage as an important component of overall health and wellness.
- 56% of people received a massage for one or more of the following reasons: soreness, stiffness or spasms, to relieve or manage stress, for prevention or to improve quality of life, injury recovery or rehabilitation, to keep fit or health/maintain wellness, or to control headaches or migraines.
- 39% indicated that medical benefits would be their primary motivation for having a massage.
Health Care Providers Recommending Massage as a Viable Form of Treatment: Health care providers and doctors are more commonly viewing massage therapy as a legitimate option to address health concerns.
- 48% of respondents indicated that they were encouraged by their doctor to receive a massage.
- 53% of respondents said their physician has recommended they get a massage.
